Making Faces

I often theorize why I create lots of faces and characters in my art. One thought is they are subconsciously reimagined versions of the suppressed faces I never got to make, in those times I may have needed to express and contort myself but didn’t have the capacity or the courage or was denied for any number of reasons. Another thought is I’m trying to build a community of sorts for myself, a place where I can be myself, without fear or judgement. This ‘community’ seems to fill a certain void in my life. I give each character the attention it deserves because I believe each should have its own style and personality that deserves to be noticed - Like any of us would want or do for ourselves. The etching and details reveal each to have dimension, but they all coexist as part of a bigger tapestry - intricately woven together in a mural titled “Shape Shifter.” My work is detailed and meant to be viewed at large scale.
